Parts
Parts is an exploration of my reduction to just my physicality. As a trans woman, I’m often reduced to only my parts. This is a phenomena that occurs regardless of political alignment. I’m as likely to be reduced to only my parts by so-called “gender critical feminist” as I am by the most staunchly conservative politician. I’m aware that this phenomena also happens with cis women, but it’s not as universal as the criticisms of trans women are subjected to.
In this body of work, I’m asking myself what’s the effect of all this? Do I think of myself as more than a collection of parts that have to be perceived as feminine? What is my place as a woman in this society? Can I consider myself to be of this society or will I always be an outsider?
Parts is a series of self portraits. This project is ongoing and has been shot off and on since 2021.
