Furniture
This work is a satirical look at the place of trans women in society and our place in public discourse.
This project is made up of self portraits. I have been building myself into human sculpture; throughout, I will be portrayed as passive pieces of furniture.
My goal with this work is to demonstrate how society dehumanizes trans women. We’re often discussed as if we’re not even in the room, like we’re just pieces of furniture. With the erotic nature of this art work, I hope to show how easy it is to be attracted to and fetishize the people who are reduced to objects, regardless of their discomfort.
This project is very much a work in progress being worked on over the course of several years. Of note, as society progresses, the work remains relevant.
